THE TALA SHELF

The rhythm of form and function.

Named after “Tāla” — the Sanskrit term for rhythm and beat in classical Carnatic music — this piece celebrates repetition, proportion, and balance. Just as rhythm defines silence between notes, The Tala Shelf defines space between objects.

Design Story

Handcrafted from solid Burma teak, The Tala Shelf explores repetition and alignment through individually shaped oval forms, joined with precision mortise and dowel craftsmanship for lasting strength and balance. Each edge is hand-sanded to a soft round profile, allowing light to glide seamlessly across the surface. Finished in a warm satin matte polish, it highlights the natural rhythm of teak grain — transforming structure into sculpture. A timeless, tactile piece designed as functional art.

Concept

The Tala Shelf is a study in balance — an architectural sculpture shaped from simple ovals and vertical symmetry. Each level flows with measured precision, creating a calm, steady rhythm. Designed not just to hold, but to highlight, it makes every object feel intentional and beautifully curated.
